Here is an overview of the projects the Community Work Teams are currently running in New South Wales and the ACT.

Hunter Java Games Participants will design several computer games to focus on mathematical and analytical skills. Completed programmes to be donated to local schools. As a team participants will develop skills in web language HTML.
Newcastle: A History in the Making The creation of a theatre production using puppetry that tells the story of the history of Newcastle.
Soul Café 3 Soul café 3 project will be offering work experience within the hospitality food industry. The participants will be given the opportunity to gain experience within the food preparation area, waiting on tables and also cooking.
Busting Graffiti at Windale Participants will work together in teams to identify and plan graffiti clean-ups in the Windale area. The project will include beautification via graffiti clean-ups and, in some cases, painting tasteful murals refecting upon the local community.
Hit For Six The project will be for 4 participants to be involved in the maintenance and running of the Raymond Terrace District Cricket Club. Participants will establish wickets and curate the clubs main wickets.
Nelson Bay Town Management General administration, drafting correspondence, assisting with administration, marketing and coordination of events, creating flyers, newsletters, brochures, posters, invitations and networking with the local business community.
Field Contemporary Art Space Participants will provide assistance to gallery directors.
Treasure Chest Jewels Treasure Chest Jewels will give participants work experience in making jewellery, research skills in current trends and also the marketing of the completed products. The marketing will entail the use of computers and different aspects of sales.
Gardening, Landscaping and Restoration of facilities Participants will be involved in a variety of tasks in the construction of the garden project. Painting, concreting, laying blocks, planting trees and mulching. All work will be supervised and participants will be trained in OH&S.
R&R Save The Planet & Serve The Community Community Recycling program and community projects. Environmental, Restoration, Horticultural & construction. Participants will be utilising and learn a variety of skills in working with timber, metal, engines and retail.
Raymond Terrace Community Choices Project The project consists of 3 distinct work elements surrounds on line, Community Breakfasts, and a community beautification all designed to give participants a variety of activities and work experience to learn from and participate in.
Tidy Towns Maintenance of local reserves to allow public use and appreciation. Construction of walkways, barriers and signage. Removal of exotic flora species and replanting of indigenous native species.
Working IT Participants will be involved in the day-to-day operations of the CTC, learning the use and applications of IT products including the full range of Microsoft Office products, laser & ink-jet printing, scanning, and photocopying
Living Forests The project will be for participants to assist the State Forests with the day to day running of the recreational areas. Participants will learn skills in fencing, concreting, maintaining walking trails & establishing new walking trails.

Food & Flowers All aspects of horticulture and maintenance, including growing of fresh veggies, flowers and eggs for various welfare groups and community organisations.
Global Care Business Administration Basic business administration involving the development of flyers newsletter for various not-for-profit organisations.
Kool Kidz Communicare Developing java games for school aged children.
Salvo Store Call Centre Working in the call centre for the Minchinbury call centre.
Moving Forward – Host Sponsor Foothills Vineyard Church Various host placements in child care, aged care, office, retail, and maintenance.

Oasis Art Program This project will provide training and opportunities for participants to develop their skills in creative art activities, such as painting, drawing, sculpture and sewing. Participants will have access to resources and support to complete individual and group art projects. A number of these completed artworks will be given to selected community groups to enhance their environments.

The Street Level Internet Café The Street Level Internet Café Provides disadvantaged people in the inner city with nutritious & affordable meals ($3 per meal), free internet access and offers experience/ training in a café environment! You will develop your skills in areas such as food handling, food preparation, table service and taste-testing different types of food for our menu. Learn basic computer skills and enjoy the experience of working with a great team.

City Choices This project offers a wide choice of community host employment opportunities in fields such as accounts, customer Service, clerical, office reception, retail, radio communications, recycling, warehousing, handyperson work, personal care, food service, and information technology and historical restoration. The project will enhance job prospects by improving skills knowledge, self esteem and by providing practical “hands on” experience in preferred areas of vocational employment. Main tasks include:

Location: Inner City and Eastern Suburbs
Oasis Information Technology Centre This project will provide training and develop the skills of participants in website design, programming and database development. Technologies include client-side and server-side programming, (Java Script, ASP, JSP), SQL and graphical design using software programs such as Dreamweaver and Photoshop. Projects include development of in house informationalwebsite, auction application and database search engine. Work as a team and suggestions of new projects are welcome!

Oasis Multimedia Centre Oasis Media Centre - Cinematography Work with our talented cinematography team. Film community based projects and content made for TV broadcast. We use DV CAM based cameras and professional non linear editing systems. No experience needed but does require a real interest and commitment to get the job done.
Main tasks include DV CAM camera operation, lighting subjects and sets, location sound recording, non linear editing, pre-production, production co-ordination, script writing, post-production, sound editing, interviewing and documentary filming.
Oasis Media Centre - Radio This project operates out of a new radio / internet studio & will give participants training in skills for radio production, including on-air time. Under the supervision of a qualified supervisor, participants will be trained in basic microphone techniques, radio etiquette and studio protocols, media and information gathering, interviewing, panel operation, music culture and interpretation, vocal technique / voice overs, programming, advertising and its place in the radio industry.
Oasis Media Centre - Video Be a part of a team where you will learn skills in the area of video production & editing. Work on small documentaries & short films using digital cameras & digital editing software to produce promotional material for community organisations! No experience necessary but does require a real interest!
Main tasks include operating a camera, video editing, lighting & sound, script writing, interview skills, team – building skills, creating graphical titles / intros to films & documentaries.

Eastern Suburbs Retails & Training Opportunities Provides participants with an opportunity to work in the presentation and selling of second hand clothes, furniture and other household goods to residents of the Eastern Suburbs. Learn all facets involved in operating a retail store selling second hand goods to people in the community.
Main tasks include picking up donated goods from the community, (accompanying volunteer drivers), sorting donated goods, customer service, cash register operation, stock control, rotation of goods, setting up displays, cleaning premises, job searching using internet available on work site computer!

Oasis Information Technology Centre Computers for Charity Are you the kind of person who just has to know how things work? Do you have an interest in computers, and learning how they work? If so then this activity is for you! Learn how to build computers, using parts supplied by reputable manufacturers. Skills developed include: identifying components and their functions, installing software, reconfiguration of computer hardware, and learning how to make them all work together!
Main tasks include under the supervision of a qualified technician, participants are involved in the collection and transport of donated computers, computer maintenance, computer upgrades, computer networking and installation of software programs.

Sydney on Line Participants on this project will be involved in developing and maintaining a virtual community under the City (Sydney) domain name www.city.org.au in order to boost the local area economy by introducing the history, economy and other characteristics of the area to worldwide web visitors.
Main tasks include administering email accounts, creating use and technical documentations, developing web applications, induction and initial assessment of current IT ability, and skill enhancement assistance.
